Are You Mad* for Mad Libs?

Listen to me read this post.

I added a new game for you in the side bar.  It's called Mad Libs.  This is a popular game that kids play in the US.  And it's been around forever because I remember playing it as a kid.  Wow!  That's a really long time ago. :)

Anyway, it's the perfect game for our vocab study week because it's all about using individual words to create a funny story.

A Mad lib is a story with blanks in it.  But you don't get to see the story at first.  Instead the program gives you a bunch a of boxes to fill in with different types of words.  Here's a chance to use the words you are trying to learn and remember and do it in a fun way.

The boxes are labeled with the type of word you need to type in the blank.

So if it says noun, you need to type in a person, place or thing. For example, a student, library, or a cat are all nouns.  Sometimes it says a plural noun, in that case it means more than one like cats.

A verb is an action word like run, jump, or vote.

An adjective is a describing word such as pretty, ugly, or clean.

Occupation means a job such as teacher, bus driver, or lawyer.

It might ask for a part of the body such as head, foot, elbow or an article of clothing such as pants, shirt, or jacket.

Once you fill in all of the boxes, you press submit and it puts your answers into   the premade story.  Now you get to read the story and laugh at all the funny results. Don't worry about trying to guess the proper word for the story.  It's supposed to be random and crazy words that don't really fit.  That's what makes it funny.

Give it a try and let me know what you think.

Thanks for listening.  This has been Cassie Brenn for fastfoodenglish.blogspot.com.

Mad is another word for crazy about.  It means you really like something.  Such I can't wait to buy another Hello Kitty purse.  I'm mad for them.  It's not used that often anymore but you still hear it now and then.
