Wedding Gifts

In the United States it's the tradition for the man to ask the woman to get married.  We call this the proposal. A man proposes marriage by getting down on one knee, asking his girlfriend "will you marry me?", and presenting her with a diamond engagement ring.  Men often find creative ways to propose - Special locations and creative ways for asking the big question.  In this video the guy finds a delicious way to pop the question.


But the point of this video is actually about the wedding gifts.  If you are invited to a wedding, it is appropriate to bring a gift for the couple. Money is fine but wedding guests typically buy a gift for the young couple's new household together.  So kitchen items and household goods are a common choice.  If you would like to buy a gift, one way to know what they would like is to check a gift registry. 

A gift registry is a list of items selected by the couple at a particular store.  You can go to that store and see the list of things they would like.  The list will show if someone else has already bought that gift or not.  So, you can look over the list, choose something to buy and feel confident knowing that it is a gift the couple will love.

However, not all couples register.  Watching this video will show you a few of the items that this couple has picked for their registry. So it will give you an idea of what a good wedding gift would be and you can choose something similar.
