Tour the White House

Listen to me read this post

The first stop on our tour of Washington DC is the White House.

The White House is the home and office for the United States President and his family.

It's a great place to take a picture outside but you can also take a tour of the inside if you make arrangements ahead of time.  For foreign visitors you must call your embassy in Washington, DC and ask them to set up a tour for you. Be sure to do this in advance to give them enough time to set up the tour.

In my opinion, the best time to take a tour of the White House is in December when the building is decorated for Christmas.   All of the rooms will have special decorations for the holiday and it's very beautiful.

One special decoration that you will see on the tour is a gingerbread house made by the White House Chef.  Every year a new gingerbread house is made and they always have special touches that reflect the current residents.  For example, here is a picture of one that has a dog sitting in front of a gingerbread White House and the dog looks just like the President's own dog Bo.

So, if you are ever in Washington DC be sure to visit the White House. You can read more about it at http://www.whitehouse.gov/about
